...Every two minutes or so, I interrupt the student's reading and say, "That's two minutes, just breathe." By saying the same thing, it creates a trigger word that decreases stress. Hopefully, when I'm not physically there and the student feels stressed, they will hear my voice saying, "just breathe" and they will relax. My third method is to determine a student's vocabulary.
