...I believe a good tutor should look for examples to help reinforce topics and try explaining the material different ways if a student is having trouble grasping a topic. I don't believe that good teaching is reciting facts over and over in only one format. I prefer to tutor in public libraries or local coffee shops. (read more)
...One of the things I heard over and over again during the roughly a decade I've been tutoring is folks say that they are just 'not good' at a given subject. While I completely feel the frustration of struggling with a new thing, I love changing people's minds. ...Depending on the instructor, conic sections, basic statistics, and parametric and polar curves also get covered, but that's not an issue. Since these courses cover a lot of material in a relatively short amount of time, I encourage and help my students review regularly. Creating sample problem sheets and working on timed practice tests is very beneficial. (read more)
