...I'm sure many people reading this have heard someone say that they aren't a math person (perhaps it was even you). Often, the sentiment is that one's brain needs to be "wired" for mathematics, or that people who excel in math hold some innate gift. This is not very accurate. I am a firm believer in the notion that no one is a "non-math" person. (read more)
...Additionally, though, I like to look into why a student is struggling. Certain factors such as difficulty with organizing papers and advocating for oneself to the classroom teacher are often significant reasons for having difficulty with a subject. I find it helpful to identify these non-subject related problems and work on them with my students while working on the material. (read more)
