...For my statistics tutoring sessions I have worked with students doing calculations by hand, with a graphing calculator, or with various softwares like StatCrunch, Excel, Minitab, SAS, and R. While I adapt my teaching style to the needs of each student, my general philosophy is that math is a skill as much as riding a bicycle. It is best learned through experience and practice.
