...In algebra 1, you learn how to solve for x in an equation; in algebra 2, you learn how to solve for both x and y in systems of two equations. In algebra 1, you learn how to factor x^2 + 5x +6 into (x + 2)*(x + 3); in algebra 2, you learn how to divide x^2 + 5x + 6 by (x + 4), even though the result is a fraction.
